Integrative Cancer Care

As nearly one in two Canadians are expected to develop Cancer in their lifetime,* We support patients affected by cancer by providing care at each stage of the disease – from cancer prevention, through all types of conventional treatment, into survivorship and palliative care.

Cancer Care Therapies include:

Naturopathic Oncology

The naturopathic philosophy is to stimulate the healing power of the body and treat the underlying cause of disease. Naturopathic oncology is the application of naturopathic medicine in the field of cancer care and treatment.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. The traditions of Asian medicine observed physical and emotional issues as being affected by the flow of energy termed “Qi” (pronounced “chee”). Acupuncture employs the use of fine, sterile needles to correct the flow of “Qi” in the body.

I.V. Therapy

Intravenous therapy (IV therapy) is the infusion of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other natural substances directly into the blood stream.

Nutritional Support

Nutritional support at KSN is designed to help cancer patients maintain their body weight and strength, fight infection and reduce potential side effects of cancer treatment with a personalized nutrition plan.

Psychotherapy

Individual counselling sessions provide personal and private time to deal with unspoken fears and concerns. Our patients often find great comfort in being able to speak freely about what their life, healing and mortality means to them; thoughts that are not always easily shared with loved ones.

Potential benefits of the therapies we provide include:

  • Reduced side effects of conventional treatment
  • Improved tolerance and efficacy of conventional treatment
  • Reduced risks associated with cancer recurrence
  • Improved quality of life by increasing energy, reducing pain, improving appetite, etc.
  • Education and support to patients and their family.

Treating cancer and working through oncology is much more than knowing what the typical treatments are.

  • Learning how to modify your life and many aspects of it.
  • Learning how to cope with and resolve the impact of medications and the cancer itself.
  • Learning how to manage the mental/emotional impact that arrives with the diagnosis and the process.
  • Learning how to support the body’s ability to heal.
  • Exploring the treatment options that are best suited to one’s personal and individual needs.

Our goal is to help you navigate the multitude of choices available for your healing and tailor a treatment plan unique to your individual needs. To do whatever is possible to support conventional treatments and to ensure that what is incorporated toward healing, is safe, effective practice that works in combination with other treatments and medications. We ensure that everything is made clear, educating every step of the way, empowering the patient to play an active role in their health decisions.

With so many variables to consider in an individual’s health, especially when working with medical oncology treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, hormone suppression treatment, radiation, and/or surgery, safety should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Making sure recommendations for your care will be safe for your individual situation is one of our core principles.

All, with practitioners who will dedicate the time, education and experience to the patient. Who will listen to ones needs and help work towards the best possible outcome with knowledge, dedication and compassion.

Although the basis of cancer development and progression is similar from case to case, each case is a unique circumstance. As such, every type of cancer needs to be approached in its own way. When we consider genetics, diet, lifestyle, mental/emotional health, exposure to toxins, stress etc., it is easy to understand that each case is significant, individual and very personal.

Many people with a similar cancer diagnosis can regularly be on different treatment paths. There is usually much to be considered –

  • Different conventional treatments
  • Different medications
  • Different stages of mental/emotional health
  • Different levels of personal support at home/with family.

This all needs to be considered. We know each person is an individual, and the treatment must be individualized to one’s particular needs to achieve the best outcome.

Our goal is not only to help provide the tools and treatments for incorporating complementary medicine into your cancer journey in a safe manner, but also to assist you in feeling empowered with your own health. By playing an active role in your own care, you are taking steps in improving your health.

One of the most important parts of this, is helping one understand all that is going on – Details on the type of cancer and all the different treatment options.

Be it the prevention of cancer, the care of individuals going through a cancer diagnosis, or helping patients navigate their health once medical oncology treatments have finished, we can help!
